The Early Bird Catches the Returnloads

Returnloads can often appear when you least expect them, and yet there is certainly some truth in the idea that the early bird will more often than not catch the most succulent worm. So, what are the benefits of being the first up, about and on the road in the mornings?

Get into the Garage

Maintenance and repair is an unavoidable aspect of working behind the wheel, but it can be costly not only in terms of parts and labour, but also due to the hours during which your vehicle is off the road. The best way to avoid losing money on the maintenance of your lorry is to make sure that you get an early morning appointment. More and more garages are starting to open by six o’clock in the morning for these appointments, and that way, you can be back on the road by the time the rest of the world is waking up and you won’t miss out on any deliveries or returnloads. Remember though, these early bird appointments are highly coveted so be sure to book in well in advance if you know you have a service or an MOT coming up.

Beat the Rush Hour

We all know that traffic is one of the biggest hindrances you will encounter during the day, and rush hour is by far the worst time for this. However, if you can schedule your deliveries and returnloads so that they fit into the least busy periods then you can guarantee far fewer holdups on your journey. And what’s more, you’ll find that you can fit in several more returnloads during the course of the day than you could if you’d spent your time held up in traffic. Beating the rush hour traffic is one area in which the early bird truly does gain the advantage, and one that will last for the whole day. So, to beat the traffic, make sure you’re up and on the road as early as possible.

See the Sights at their Best

One of the best perks of driving is the sights you’ll see as you travel around and through the countryside. As the day goes on however, the traffic begins to obstruct the views so if you really want to see things at their best, the early morning is the perfect time to be out and about. The peace and quiet is often complemented by a stunning sunrise or sunset that will make you glad you made the effort to hit the road early. The landscape will often look very different if you tackle it early on in the day; and you will get the chance to see the sights at their most beautiful and least spoilt if you aim to start your deliveries and returnloads as early as possible.

Whilst waking up early is not everyone’s cup of tea, there is certainly a lot to be said for hitting the road as early as possible. Whether it is beating the traffic, beating the need to hang around for a service, or simply being able to enjoy the peace and quiet of the morning, there is a lot to be said for being the early bird when it comes to deliveries and returnloads.
